Grundarfjörður – the firehouse library

For several years the library of Grundarfjörður was located inside the school building. Then it moved across the street into a tiny building revetted with corrugated iron. But the community decided to build a new, multifunctional house right beside the small library. This building is the firehouse, the library, a branch office for a nationwide communal consulting service and a meeting point for several groups. But the library has still strong connections to the school and there is a special kind of  inter-library loan going on across the street. Thanks to Gegnir, it doesn’t matter where the books are physically located. Although the schoolchildren are the main user group, special services are also offered for the elderly.
